The Three Main Causes of Obesity
Do you think you are fat? Being fat doesn’t mean you’re already obese. Being obese is the worst remark that you can get if you are fat. Obesity is being fat in an extreme way. You can be fat but not necessarily obese, remember that.
Obesity is measured by what they call a BMI or body mass index. A BMI of 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight. If you go over that, you are considered obese.
In the United States, causes of obesity are rolled into three factors. First is ‘genetic inheritance’, next is ‘lack of enough workouts’, and third is ‘bad diet’.
Are your parents’ fat? How about your grandparents? Looking back at how your ancestors looked could give you an idea of why you look like what you do now or how you will possibly look like in the future. In America, stout genes may sometimes show up after college or after your mid-20s. Some children suffer from obesity before they even get to school. Our genes are responsible for how we behave in front of the dining table, how often our stomachs nudge us, and how our bodies efficiently absorb and spend the energy we get from the food we eat. We are talking about our appetites, how often we are urged to spend our energy on physical activities, and metabolism.
We can also add to genes the environment in our home as another factor in obesity. If you see your parents spending most of their time at home lying down on the couch watching TV while eating ice cream, there’s no doubt you would pick that habit up in the future if you are not already doing it now. Family genes are heavily strengthened by influence.
Speaking of being a couch potato, lack of workout is also a big factor in getting obese. If you’re not jogging, playing basketball, or walking the street, then most likely you’re sitting on a couch at home eating chips dipped in sour cream while watching a newly downloaded movie. My friend, it may look cool and lay back but that habit won’t make you healthy and fit.
Foods with high levels of sugar, cholesterol, and calories build up body fat twice as fast compared to healthy foods that we eat. On the go snacks from convenient stores are often unhealthy. These are the chips we repeatedly see on TV commercials – potato chips, crackers, cheese balls, etc. Most fast food chains, sadly, offer junk foods. The usual victims are people who are always busy and in a hurry. Slow cooked meals and well-prepared snacks are always the healthy choice.
Now, you can make your choice between obesity and health. It’s easy to say we would choose health over obesity. If you’re really into wellness, it’s easy to find the disciplined road towards it. Once you appreciate its fruits and the enjoyment of having a healthy diet and good, regular workout, it wouldn’t matter if you have obesity in your genes, you’re already a half-step towards a great well-being.
